Goal Getters: Girls’ Tournament Sees 100+ Players Hit the Pitch

Saturday 12th July 2025 was one of the hottest days of the year so far. But it didn’t stop over 100 girls taking to the pitch at Rochdale’s Hive in a tournament jointly organised between Saddleworth 3Ds and Rochdale AFC.

The U12s Tournament

The morning session was for next season’s U12s and featured:

  • Rochdale AFC

  • Saddleworth 3Ds Eagles

  • Saddleworth 3Ds Falcons

  • Todmorden Warriors

  • Milnrow Xenas

  • Uppermill FC

Our own girls’ team recently split into two teams (the Eagles and the Falcons) and this was a chance for both to take to the field in their newly formed teams.

100% effort from each and every girl on the pitch saw a close group stage, which ultimately culminated in a close final between Uppermill and Todmorden - one that was eventually settled on penalties.

These girls could teach the pros a thing or two about penalties. 3 absolutely perfect kicks from each team meant it would be sudden death - with Todmorden Warriors narrowly taking the trophies.

The U11s Tournament

The afternoon arrived and 6 teams entering u11 in the coming season joined us:

  • Rochdale AFC

  • Spurley Hey Development

  • Rossendale Valley Falcons

  • Sublime Athletic

  • Whiston

  • Haslingden Whirlwinds

A close tournament in the mini league stage saw the finalists settled on head to head results - with Rochdale and Rossendale facing off for the trophies. A narrow 1-0 win saw Rochdale take the trophies and round off a fantastic day of football for over 100 local girls.

The tournament was made possible with the generous help of two local business sponsors - Lollipop 4D Baby Scans and Benchmaster. Many thanks to them for supporting what was a fantastic day.
